About PILARC
The Partnership Initiative & Legal Aid to Rural Communities program (PILARC) is a student-led, new initiative that seeks to bring together students and faculty from UC Hastings and pair them with community groups and organizations in rural parts of California.
The primary goals of the program are twofold: First, to positively contribute to some of the most marginalized and underrepresented communities in the State of California. Second, to educate future legal practitioners about some of the most pressing issues affecting these communities.
Teams are expected to work on location with the partner organization during the winter and/or spring breaks. The PILARC Program is designed to help UC Hastings students bridge the gap between knowing and doing, and to strengthen students' ability to develop innovative approaches to complex legal problems. By learning to collaborate on real-world issues, PILARC participants gain valuable personal experience and make significant contributions that are valued by the organization and communities they partner with.
